Over the past few weeks the UNISON higher education service group executive (HESGE) has been consulting its members on the JNCHES pay offer of just a 1.4% pay increase for 2025/26.
UNISON members have voted to reject the offer.
We are currently working with the other higher education unions on agreeing next steps in our campaign for better pay and funding for higher education. The HEGSE wants to work with the other higher education trade unions on a joint campaign to improve the pay offer and believe that any action to challenge the pay offer should be coordinated with the other unions. Those unions are still in the process of concluding their consultations with members.
We understand that UCEA have written to universities suggesting they impose the 1.4% award from 1 August 2025. The joint trade unions have objected to this imposition and requested that the employers should continue to negotiate with the unions.
We will update members with more information soon.
All of the latest information and ideas for how to get involved in the campaign can be found on our webpage.
